Hockey Night: One gets it done for Moorhead

Dec. 5: Spuds beat longtime Section 8AA rival Roseau 1-0, WBL tops Stillwater, BSM gets another big win, Waseca scores 19

Moorhead 1, Roseau 0

MOORHEAD - Junior defenseman Aidan Dufault's first-period goal accounted for all of the scoring and senior goaltender Kai Weigel made 30 stops as Moorhead held off longtime Section 8AA rival Roseau 1-0 at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Dufault scored for No. 8-2A Moorhead (2-3-0) with assists from Carter Midthune and Carson Kuntz 1:38 into the opening period. Dufault fired home a rebound from close range for his first goal of the season.

The shutout was the first of the season for Weigel, a leading candidate for the Frank Brimsek Award that goes to the state's top senior goaltender.

Connor Woidtke made 32 saves for previously unbeaten No. 20-2A Roseau (3-1-0).

White Bear Lake 5, Stillwater 3

STILLWATER - Jack Stanius scored twice and Nolan Roed had a goal and an assist as White Bear Lake outlasted section rival Stillwater 5-2 at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center.

Stillwater's Luke Myers scored 2:19 into the third period to tie the score at 3-3, but White Bear Lake regained the lead on a Tyler Lalonde goal with 7:13 remaining.

Stanius scored an empty net goal with 10.9 seconds left to clinch the victory that gives the No. 10-2A Bears (2-1-0) an edge over the Ponies (0-3-0) in the Section 4AA pecking order.

La Crescent-Hokah 13, Viroqua (Wis.) 1

LA CRESCENT - Wyatt Farrell scored four goals and Noah Gillette three as unbeaten La Crescent-Hokah steamrolled Viroqua, Wis., 13-1 at the La Crescent Community Arena.

The Lancers improved to 3-0-0 and have scored a combined 34 goals.

Farrell has a team-best nine goals. 

Cooper Rahr made 23 saves for Viroqua (3-2-0).

Benilde-St. Margaret's 4, Andover 2

ST. LOUIS PARK - Westan Quirk's first-period goal held up as the game winner as Benilde-St. Margaret's raced to an early three-goal lead then hung to beat Andover 4-2 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

Scoring balance helped propel No. 12-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's (3-0-0), as four players scored and five more had assists. No Red Knight had more than a single point.

No. 11-2A Andover (2-2-0) got both of its goals in on third-period power plays. Senior defenseman Landon Stringfellow had a goal and an assist.

Monticello 7, Pine City 6

PINE CITY - Gunnar Simon's goal with 2:27 remaining boosted Monticello past Pine City 7-6 at the Pine City Civic Center.

The goal was the second of the game for Simon, a senior forward.

Landon Scherber led the Moose with three goals and an assist. Monticello has scored five or more goals in its victories.

Senior Gavin Broz scored three goals for Pine City (1-3-0).

St. Cloud Cathedral 7, Gentry Academy 4

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Andrew Dwinnell had three goals and two assists as St. Cloud Cathedral outlasted Gentry Academy 7-4 at the TCO Sports Garden.

No. 6-1A St. Cloud Cathedral (4-0-1) led by as many as three goals in the second period. Gentry Academy (3-3-0) closed to within 5-4 on Jacob Guille's goal with 5:24 remaining.

Joey Gillespie's second goal of the final period put the Crusaders ahead 6-4 and Dwinnell scored his third goal with 1:53 left to compete the scoring.

Cathedral's Nick Hansen made 43 saves.

Waseca 19, Worthington 0

DATELINE - Sophomore forward Jude Gehring scored six goals as Waseca blasted Worthington 19-0 at the Waseca Community Center.

Freshman Cash Lynch added four goals for the Bluejays (3-2-0).

Worthington dropped to 0-2-0.
